After tens of thousands of kilometers mountain biking in Asia Bike Asia director Michael Sutherland settled on a mission to develop a modern, green hemp industry from the roots of tradition and culture. As a practical path to a bright, green, and sustainable future, peopleshemp was born, a response to extensive first-hand observation and consideration of environment and society, particularly as influenced by modern development.

Yunnan, where hemp traditions and resources were extensive, yet largely untapped, was chosen: a large and promising area of socially and environmentally responsible development in line with the larger goals and interests of virtually everybody.

Since the beginning we engaged in industrial hemp development, research and consulting, supply and private label manufacturing, providing high quality yarns, fabrics, garments, and accessories to exacting standards. Building on our experience supplying high quality and economical hemp products, we also bring you peopleshemp™�, traditional and handmade hemp products, and urbanhemp�™ clothing for men and women, all according to the same standards of quality, performance, and value for money, as well as social and environmental responsibility which have guided our business since inception. As a charter member of the Hemp Industries Association (HIA), we are strongly committed to the hemp industry.  Michael Sutherland, founder and chief executive of the company, was elected to the Hemp Industries Association (HIA) Board of Directors in 2003.
