Commitment to Responsible Social and Environmental Practices
Our commitment to responsible practices is integral to realizing our vision and mission. While hemp offers many inherent benefits (sinks carbon, bio-degrades…), complete responsibility must also include accountability to the environment (atmosphere, soil, biodiversity, water, climate…), and society (workers, consumers, the public). Our responsibility and commitment begins at home, with the land and people, the processes, and the products, includes those we work with, and extends to our customers, the industry, and public at large. We reject unsafe, inequitable, dishonest, coercive, polluting, or otherwise irresponsible business practices within our organization and amongst the parties we work with. Specifically:
- No child labor.
- Fair trade.
- Above-market wages and progressive benefits.
- Organic practices.
- Clean and safe working conditions.
- Natural and low-impact dyes and processes.
- No shoddy products or excessive packaging.
Furthermore:
We evaluate all our products for environmental and social impacts before introducing them to the market, and reject those which do not meet our standards.
We support traditional hemp culture, including practices of organic agriculture, local value adding and use, rotation- and inter-cropping, composting and soil stewardship.
We support preservation, study and improvement of Cannabis sativa L. geneplasm, including true to seed varieties and native landraces.
We support the use of hemp in restoration of degraded lands.
We acknowledge trade-offs and side impacts are inherent in our choices, and strive to integrate these honestly into our assessment and decision making processes.
We welcome input regarding our products, social and environmental practices, impacts and values.
